Biochar
Biochar is biomass modified by pyrolysis. The properties of biochar depend on the raw material, the temperature and the retention time of the slow pyrolysis process. To be used as permanent carbon storage, biochar must fulfill the properties defined by the certification bodies e.g Puro.earth or IBI. Generally, the minimum temperature of the pyrolysis process must be over 450 °C and retention time long enough to reach the minimum Cfix > 80 %.
With moderate capex Torrec Technology enables to produce the adjustable biochar for different end uses, such as steel industry, additives to construction materials and soil improvement. Furthermore, the condensates can be processed into liquid fuels.
